Bernie Williams 2014

Bernie Williams 2014

Growing up in Puerto Rico, Bernie Williams discovered his love for baseball and music at roughly the same time, when at the age of eight he fell in love with the sounds of a flamenco guitar his merchant-marine father brought home from Spain, and also felt the same exhilaration when he first picked up a baseball bat. The young student-athlete quickly excelled in both pursuits, going on to attend the special performance arts school Escuela Libre de Musica at the age of thirteen and becoming one of the most noted young athletes on the island, both as a track and field standout and one of Puerto Rico’s most sought after young baseball prospects. When Williams signed a contract with the New York Yankees at age 17, he brought his love of music with him – to the Bronx and the most famous field in sports when called up to join the Yankees in 1991.

In his 16 year career patrolling centerfield for the New York Yankees, Bernie Williams was a four-time World Series Champion and a five-time All Star. Williams has more post-season RBI’s to his credit than any other player in Major-league history and his resume also boasts other league awards. Bernie is among the Yankees all-time leaders in every major batting category, with his performance statistics often standing alongside such legends as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.

Throughout Williams’ years with The Yankees, his passion for music never waned, and the sound of a guitar would often be heard emanating from the clubhouse or during team flights. Whether acoustic or electric, a guitar was a constant presence in the star’s locker or equipment bag, and it was no surprise in 2003 when he demonstrated how serious his musical pursuit was with the release of his first album, The Journey Within. The record featured fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of Williams’ heritage and was met with both strong critical praise and instant chart success- reaching #3 on Billboard’s “Contemporary Jazz Chart.”

Bernie Williams raised his musical game even further with the release of his second album Moving Forward. Featuring guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, Dave Koz, and an All-Star cast of renowned studio musicians, Moving Forward debuted as Billboard’s #2 Contemporary Jazz album in the country, and spawned two consecutive Billboard #1 singles, Go For It, and Ritmo de Otono. The album was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2009.

Bernie also co-authored a book in 2011 published by Hal Leonard Books titled, Rhythms of the Game: The Link Between Music and Athletic Performance.  The book examines the symbiotic relationship between musical artistry and athletic performance through the eyes of a man who has mastered both.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

Utter the phrase "young blues guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Still barely in his 30s, the Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has been selling millions of albums, throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd's “How I Go” not only serves as a strong reminder of the chops that caused Guitar World to place him right behind B.B. King and Eric Clapton on their list of blues guitarists, but it's the strongest indication yet of his gifted songwriting talent. The album pairs Kenny's deeply soulful and impassioned takes on classic material like Bessie Smith's "Backwater Blues," Albert King's "Oh, Pretty Woman" and The Beatles "Yer Blues" alongside the strongest writing and co-writing of his career thus far.

Let's not forget that Kenny co-wrote "Blue on Black" very early on. The song was #1 on the Rock Charts for 17 consecutive weeks. All of the accolades heaped upon his playing are well deserved and well earned. But there is so much more to offer.

Where Ledbetter Heights (1995) was a little more bluesy; Trouble Is… (1997) offered more blues based rock; Live On (1999) took a turn to more blues based rock; The Place You're In (2004) went straight ahead rock and the 10 Days Out (2007) documentary exemplified the best of straight blues, Kenny says this one "falls right down the middle between blues and rock."

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is very cognizant of the emotional role music can play in the lives of his listeners. He's in awe of that responsibility and works hard to bring happiness to people with his considerable gifts. With that said, he's bound and determined to be remembered as a guy who just straight-up kicked a lot of butt. "I get up on stage every night to play my heart out and to try to turn people on their ear, man. I want to bring light into people's lives with my music. If I can make people feel good for an hour and a half to two hours and forget about whatever might be stressing them out, then I'm doing my job."

In a 20-year recording career that began when he was just 16, Shepherd has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist, a consistently in-demand live act and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of interest in the blues. Now, the five-time GRAMMY® nominee delivers one of his most personal projects to date with “Goin' Home”, his eighth album and his first to be recorded in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Recorded in a mere 11 days, “Goin' Home”  finds Shepherd revisiting a dozen of the vintage blues classics that first ignited his love of the blues and inspired him to play guitar. The artist's sharp interpretive skills and sublime guitar work shine on his renditions of tunes originally popularized by such blues icons as B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells.

Travis Tritt

Travis Tritt

“I feel so humbled and blessed to be where I am right now,” says Travis, who will release the album on his own Post Oak Records. “My voice has never been stronger, I’m constantly playing and working to become a better guitar player, banjo player, vocalist and songwriter. I am honestly as excited about the creative process and performing now as I was the day I signed my first record deal.”

The highly abbreviated Tritt timeline has the young Georgian incorporating lifelong influences in Southern Rock, blues and gospel into his country during a honky-tonk apprenticeship that led him to Warner Bros. His 1990 debut Country Club and its succession of hits put him in the vanguard of the genre’s early ’90s boom. At the same time, his conspicuous lack of a cowboy hat and musical aggressiveness set him apart. The next eight albums and scores of hit singles led him to amass more than 25 million in career album sales, two Grammys, three CMA Awards and a devoted fan base that filled venues coast-to-coast.

Celtic Tenors

The Celtic Tenors

The Celtic Tenors have captivated audiences throughout the UK, Europe and the U.S. since their arrival on the music scene in 2000. What began just a few years ago as three very talented friends gathering on the operatic stage has since exploded into an international recording and touring phenomenon that transcends the trio’s classical roots and embraces folk, pop and various other dimensions of the musical spectrum.

Following an impromptu audition in London, the original lineup of tenors – Matthew Gilsenan, Niall Morris and James Nelson – was signed on the spot to an international record deal with EMI, an event so unprecedented that it soon became the talk of the music industry.

The Celtic Tenors’ eponymously titled debut album immediately soared to the No. 2 spot on the UK classical charts. It went to No. 1 in Ireland and Germany, and won the Echo Award (the German version of the GRAMMYS) for Best Classical Crossover Album of 2002. The Tenors’ full-length TV special, Ein Grosse Irischer Abend (A Great Irish Evening), filmed in front of a capacity crowd in Hamburg, was broadcast to millions of viewers in Germany regularly for more than two years. It was then released as a special on more than 260 channels in the PBS network in the U.S. In a short time, this combination of recording, touring and worldwide television exposure made The Celtic Tenors one of the most successful classical crossover acts of 2002, with an album in the top ten on the Billboard charts in the U.S.

So Strong, the 2002 followup to the trio’s auspicious debut, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by the legendary Mike Moran.

Their first Telarc release, Remember Me, came out in February 2006, featuring four very special guest vocalists: Samantha Mumba (“You Raise Me Up”), Brian Kennedy (“We Are Not Islands”), Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply, who lend a hand on an epic version of Air Supply’s classic power pop ballad of 1980, “All Out of Love”. The project was a no-brainer for Russell, whose first experience of the trio made him an instant fan. “’All Out Of Love’ was our biggest hit, and I wanted to re-record it,” he says. “I heard The Celtic Tenors on a visit to Ireland and I knew immediately that we just had to duet with these guys.”

The Celtic Tenors were invited to sing for former U.S. President Bill Clinton during his visit to Dublin Castle in 2002 as part of a fund-raising effort for the Northern Ireland Peace Fund. Clinton has since said The Celtic Tenors’ version of his favorite song, “Danny Boy,” is the best he’s ever heard. In 2004, the trio had the special honor of singing in a private audience for U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and his wife Nane during a trip to Ireland. The surprise recital in honor of Annan’s birthday was a personal gift to the couple from U2 frontman Bono.

The Celtic Tenors have appeared on numerous compilation albums, including True Colors, the Official Rugby World Cup Album 2003; and Harmony, the Official Classical Album for the 2004 Olympic Games. They also appeared on Another World, the huge selling 2005 recording by Liam Lawton. Total album sales worldwide, including compilations, have surpassed a million units, making them the largest selling classical crossover artists to come out of Ireland.

2008’s Hard Times, a self-released CD of works from the Great American Songbook was the first effort to include new member Daryl Simpson.

Their most recent Telarc release Feels Like Home [October 2011] features the RTE Concert Orchestra and the Omagh Community Youth Choir in Ireland.  The Tenors add their gorgeous voices to beautiful pop songs like Richard Thompson's "Dimming of the Day" and Randy Newman's "Feels Like Home" as well as traditional fare like "Sou Gan" and "She Moved Through the Fair."

Habana Sax

Habana Sax - Direct From Cuba!

Habana Sax synthesizes Afro-Cuban, Salsa, Latin jazz, and Brazilian rhythms.

"A quintet of Cuban jazz musicians on saxophone and percussion with an amazing array of styles... with its vibrant performance of Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, Salsa, Latin jazz and Brazilian rhythms, Habana Sax represents the continuing evolution of the fiercely energetic music of Cuba!

The five members of Habana Sax are graduates of the prestigious Superior Institute of Art and Culture of Cuba and are all highly esteemed Cuban music professors. Although the group considers itself a jazz ensemble, it notes that like jazz itself, its musical experimentation is rooted in traditional music forms. Habana Sax’s distinct sound is the result of its taking traditional disciplines to the edge in an ongoing experimental endeavor. Habana Sax came together in the late ‘80s as a classical saxophone quartet at Havana’s Superior Institute of Art and Culture when cofounder Jorge Luis Almeida, a faculty member there, picked three of his star pupils to form the ensemble. Later additions of a percussionist (in order to add traditional Cuban music to their repertoire) and then a drummer, prompted the band to embrace modern jazz in their sets. According to Almeida, “Our sound is difficult to describe since it doesn’t fit a specific school of music...we do a full show where we dance, we sing, we play our instruments....”

Habana Sax’s show has been described as a wild and glorious journey where African chants may suddenly spin into salsa and without warning salsa becomes the opening movement of a traditional symphonic composition that abruptly becomes a richly textured based jazz piece anchored in pounding Latin percussion." --

Please join us for a breathtaking and energetic concert experience!

KANSAS

KANSAS

Celebrating their 40th year as a band in 2013, KANSAS' first public statement appeared on their self-titled album in 1974. "From the beginning, we considered ourselves and our music different and we hope we will always remain so." Little did this legendary rock group realize that back in the early ‘70's, what seemed to be “different," was actually ahead of its time.

This "garage band" from Topeka released their first album in 1974 and went on to have produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show) and a million-selling gold single, ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70's and ‘80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums world-wide. In fact, ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ was the #2 most Played Track on classic rock radio in 1995 and #1 in 1997.

Coinciding with the celebration of their 40th anniversary, the band KANSAS, in June 2013, was inducted into the Kansas Historical Hall of Fame.

Along with touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and has reached a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence on the popular video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and through their songs inclusion in various television shows such as Supernatural, and South Park, and with films Old School and Anchorman.

‘Carry On Wayward Son’, ‘Point of Know Return’, ‘Dust in the Wind’, ‘Song For America’ and ‘The Pinnacle’ are just a few of Kansas’ fantastic hits. Come see all your favorites performed live at the Paramount Hudson Valley!

The Django Festival AllStars

The Django Festival AllStars

"THE BEST JAZZ SHOW IN TOWN"

“Imagine a stage filled with contemporary Django Reinhardt descendants and you'll get a sense that the collective talent pool on the bandstand is larger than the Arc de Triomphe!"

    The Wall Street Journal

The Festival, started in 2000,found there was huge interest in Django's style of HOT JAZZ.  It has gone on to be a highly anticipated event twice a year, now in its 15th year, accompanied by major tours.  The Allstar bands emerged out of the Festival which is also produced by Pat Philips & Ettore Stratta.

The Django Festival AllStars carry on the legacy of the brilliant gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt who was part of one of the most famous musical partnerships in European history with virtuoso jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli.

The AllStars, from France, bring the audience to their feet with lightning-fast guitar fingerwork on standards such as "Minor Swing" and also put the crowd in a romantic mood with gorgeous melodies, hit songs of the past such as Django's "Nuages". The program includes many new original compositions that take the music beyond.

Django's inspiration was Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington--sheer virtuosity with exuberant showmanship leaving a crowd breathless as it is with The Django Festival AllStars.  Leonardo DiCaprio has become one of the biggest fans as is George Benson, Woody Allen...every great jazz guitarist was inspired by Django…. Keith Richards, B.B.King, to name a few.

This November at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater, The DJANGO FESTIVAL ALLSTARS will be headed by legendary French gypsy guitarist, DORADO SCHMITT along with virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard who “captures the true romantic fire of Grappelli", and Ludovic Beier on accordion and accordina, who "was breathtaking and beautiful" says Will Friedwald of the Wall Street Journal.  On rhythm guitar is Francko Mehrstein, cousin of Dorado, and Xavier Nikq , on bass...all are from France where the Festivall started with the Hot Club Quintette.

"Expect buoyant rhythm, blinding technique, solid entertainment" says Nate Chinen of the NY Times.

DJANGO held it all together like a magnet, as do his descendants…. The Django Festival AllStars.

Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren is a musician, songwriter, video pioneer, producer, computer software developer, conceptualist, and, most recently, interactive artist. He began by founding and fronting The Nazz, the quintessential 60's cult group and in 1969, left to pursue a solo career, recording his debut, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972's Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight. The album was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and A Wizard, A True Star. Some of his hit singles include “I Saw The Light,” “Hello It's Me,” “Can We Still Be Friends,” and “Bang The Drum.” In 1974, Rundgren formed Utopia, a band that combined technical virtuosity and passion to create music that, for millions, defined the term "progressive rock." He’s also produced albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And Oates, among others. Todd’s latest studio album, STATE, was released on April 9, and he continues to tour with Ringo Starr as an erstwhile member of the All-Starr Band.

The Association

The Association

The Association are one of the greatest rock vocal groups of the 1960s. Million selling hit singles include #1 "Windy", #1 "Cherish", #2 "Never My Love", #5 "Along Comes Mary", #9 "Everything That Touches You". How many people have seen the Windy 7up commercial with Brad Garrett? Thousands of people used "Cherish" or "Never My Love" as their first dance at their wedding reception. "Never My Love" is the second most played song on the radio of all time.

The Association have sold more than 80 million records, CDs and DVDs, earning six gold and two platinum discs. Their album, "The Association Greatest Hits" on Warner Brothers, continues to be one of the longest running, best-selling albums in the history of the company.

The Association was formed in 1965 after the breakup of an 11-man electric folk group call The Men, the first “folk rock” group. The six-man The Association rehearsed for five months and then began performing in nightclubs, like The Troubadour and The Ice House, and at other venues like coffeehouses, folk clubs, colleges, proms and parties throughout Southern California. They had a huge fan base in Los Angeles that became millions as "Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish," both from their first album, topped the charts.

The Association was the first electric group to break through the anti-rock biases in many of the major venues across the country. They were the first rock n’ roll band to perform at Hollywood’s Greek Theatre, The Coconut Grove, The Copacabana, Tanglewood Music Festival, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and more.
